BreakThru Coaching & Mentoring

What is coaching?

A PROFESSIONAL COACH IS A PERSONAL CHANGE EXPERT. Coaches help people like you grow faster, perform at a higher level, understand themselves more deeply and live with greater purpose and fulfillment. In the same way that a personal trainer helps a pro athlete maximize performance, a personal coach can help you get the most out of life.

What is Mentoring?

It has been said that there are only two paths to success - one involves a long path learning by trial and error.  The other involves finding a mentor. Mentorship refers to a developmental relationship in which a more experienced or more knowledgeable person helps a less experienced or less knowledgeable person to become proficient in a particular area or skill set.  It is rooted in a foundation of mutual respect, trust, and commitment to the purposes of the mentoring relationship.

What Happens in a Coaching Appointment?

Coaching appointments begin with a chance for you to report on your progress, and end with a clear set of action steps you choose to take in the week ahead. But what is that essential spark between you and your coach that makes the relationship so transformational? Below are four facets of the power of coaching:

What Can I Work on with a Coach?

The answer is, “Just about anything!” Increased performance, discovering your destiny, getting organized, regular exercise, slowing down, turning a dream into reality…you only need to answer the question, “What do I want to accomplish?”

Coaching works in just about any area because it is about helping you learn. A coach is not an expert advising you in a particular field (that’s consulting), or someone more senior who’s showing you the ropes (that’s mentoring). Coaches are change experts who help you find the solution for your unique situation.

So if you want more from life-more growth, greater purpose, maximum performance-look into what a personal coach has to offer!

What happens in a mentoring appointment?

Mentoring appointments begin with a chance for you to report on your progress and end with a clear set of action steps you choose to take in the weeks ahead.  Mentoring assignments are debriefed,  and, along with instruction and input, used to highlight the path to proficiency and success.

Mentoring is a structured approach to personal development.

Mentors employ an array of tools including training, modeling, and advising to move their mentee along a path to success.  It is an intentional, yet customized approach to imparting the wisdom and guidance necessary for capacity-building.

Mentoring is rooted in a relationship of trust and mutual respect

Fruitful mentoring occurs in the context of friendship and shared responsibility for the desired outcomes of the relationship.   A mentor does not exert formal authority, but without the mentee’s commitment to following the path laid out by the mentor, the relationship will fail.

Mentoring is a support system for gaining proficiency

With support, encouragement and accountability from someone who believes in us, we can do far more than we’d ever accomplish alone.  Both failure and success are powerful teachers.  A good mentor will use these experiences – as well as stories of their own success and failure – as a guide toward proficiency.

Mentoring is regular feedback on your journey to success

Over time, mentoring cultivates an experience of continuous learning.  Each step of the journey is synthesized into the larger story of maturity and development which is enhanced by timely input and analysis by the mentor.
